พระราชกรณียกิจ ด้านดนตรี

       

        งานทางด้านดนตรี พระองค์ทรงรอบรู้เรื่องดนตรีเป็นอย่างดีและทรงดนตรีได้หลายชนิด เช่น แซ็กโซโฟน คราริเน็ต ทรัมเป็ต กีตาร์ และเปียโน โปรดดนตรีแจ๊สเป็นอย่างมาก และพระองค์ได้ประพันธ์เพลงที่มีความหมายและไพเราะหลายเพลงด้วยกัน เช่น เพลงพระราชนิพันธ์แสงเทียน เป็นเพลงแรก สายฝน ยามเย็น ใกล้รุ่ง ลมหนาว ยิ้มสู้ ค่ำแล้ว ไกลกังวล ความฝันอันสูงสุด และเราสู้ หรือจะเป็นพรปีใหม่ ซึ่งถือได้ว่าเป็นส่วนสำคัญอย่างหนึ่งที่เกี่ยวข้องกับชีวิตของชาวไทย เป็นต้น

Music

        Bhumibol is an accomplished jazz musician and composer, particularly for his works on the alto saxophone. He was the first Asian composer awarded honorary membership of the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna at the age of 32. He used to play jazz music on air on the Or Sor radio station. In his travels, he has played with such jazz legends as Benny Goodman, Jack Teagarden, Lionel Hampton, Maynard Ferguson, and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. His songs can often be heard at social gatherings and concerts. In 2003, the University of North Texas College of Music awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Music. The king's abilities as a jazz musician were mentioned by Aunt Jenny (Imogene Coca) in an episode of The Brady Bunch titled "Jan's Aunt Jenny", which originally aired on 21 January 1972.
